In the night where RBC was presenting ' Make some Noise for Mental Health', the SAIT Troy Men were making noise of their own. Number 4 team in the CCAA were trying to clinch their third South Division ACAC title. Their opponent was the improving St.Mary's University Lightning Men.
First quarter was surprising since the Lightning had jumped out to an 12 point lead. St. Mary's received balanced scoring from Joshua Matosevic (6 points), Cordell Minnifee (10 points) and Alex Cliche (6 points). Ligtning spread out scoring was out playing the Trojans John Smith (11 points) of their 18 points.
2nd quarter saw the SAIT Trojans explode in their scoring. They had 4- 3 point shots (12 points) and Smith was having a great quarter with 9 points and Ian Tevis contributed 7 points of his own. Defence played a great role and held the Lightning to 8 total points. Was this game in the basket for the Trojans?
3rd quarter scoring was even. St. Mary's came out the locker room to improve their play from the 2nd quarter. The emergence of scoring came from 9 players (26 points). The duo of Smith and Tevis were still too much for the Lightning. They both were prolific scoring from all areas of the floor. Combined for 15 of their 33 point quarter.
With game out reach the Lightning were trying limit the damage. They had won the 4th quarter and the bench players started to get some regular court time. Johnpaul Okodua scored 12 points and numerous big rebounds on both ends of the court. In the end, Tevis had scored 11points with 9 of those points from the 3 point arc. Trojans scored 25 points in the final quarter.
Final score- SAIT Trojans 109 St. Mary's Lightning 91.
