OLDS, Alta. - The Ambrose University Lions continued their hot start to the season, defeating the Olds College Broncos 89-84 to complete a weekend sweep at the Ralph Klein Centre on Saturday.
Josh Daniel was a force for Ambrose (4-0), leading the Lions with 26 points, six rebounds, and four assists while Isaac Gray added 21 points and three rebounds.
For the Broncos (0-4), Jouvon Edison posted a double-double with 28 points and 10 rebounds, while Muktar Mohamed played a key role off the bench, finishing with 19 points and seven rebounds.
Both teams traded baskets in the early going, though the Broncos gained a bit of momentum late in the first quarter, going up 28-22 through 10 minutes of play.
However, just as they did a night earlier, the Lions clawed back in the second quarter, using a 20-7 run to surge ahead and take a 56-45 lead into halftime.
The third quarter saw Olds College claw back into the game usind solid defense, cutting the Lions' lead to 69-64 with 10 minutes to play, then getting to within one possession early in the fourth. However, Ambrose was able to hold them off to complete the sweep.
Both teams will hit the court again on Friday, Nov. 2 at 8 p.m.; the Broncos will next host the Briercrest College Clippers, while Ambrose is set to face its cross-town rivals, the SAIT Trojans, at SAIT.
