The Running Room Sprints to the Finish Line With ACAC Partnership

10/19/2012... Edmonton, AB - The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce it has reached a sponsorship agreement with a long time unofficial supporter of the ACAC Cross-Country Running Championships, the Running Room.  We are very pleased to officially welcome the Running Room Ltd. to the ACAC family and are grateful for the contributions they have made in the past and are continuing to make to our student-athletes directly through this partnership and to the development of the sport of cross-country running in Alberta.

The partnership will involve four distinct areas of sponsorship.  First, the long-standing ACAC Cross-Country Running Grand Prix Series will be renamed The Running Room ACAC Cross-Country Grand Prix Series.  As many ACAC cross-country followers know, The Running Room has been involved unofficially in these events for many years.  Normally, the Conference schedules five Grand Prix events each fall culminating in the recognition of the top ten Grand Prix Medalists following the completion of the Series.

On Saturday, October 27 over 100 student-athletes representing eleven institutions will descend upon the University of Alberta – Augustana campus to compete in The 2012 Running Room ACAC Cross-Country Championships.  Last year’s event, held at SAIT in Calgary, saw 58 men and 48 women compete for the opportunity to represent the Conference and their respective institutions at the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) National Championships.  This year’s CCAA event will be hosted by Champlain College in St. Lambert, Quebec November 9-10.

Thirdly, The Running Room will lend their support behind a movement currently underway amongst the Conference’s cross-country running coaches to establish a new spring ACAC sport – indoor track.  At time of writing, the Conference expects to receive a formal sport application from the group in mid-November and the coaches are planning to host a demonstration meet in the spring.  We know that many of our current cross-country athletes are looking forward to this opportunity and the Conference awaits developments.  In the interim, we are pleased to welcome the Running Room as the sponsor of this demonstration event.

Lastly, we are excited to announce the Running Room has come aboard as the sponsor of our 2012 Cross-Country Running Player/Athlete of the Year Scholarships.  These two, $250 scholarships are awarded annually to the women’s and men’s gold medalist individual runners at the ACAC championships.  It makes perfect sense for us that these scholarships will be presented on behalf of the Running Room Ltd. at The 2012 Running Room ACAC Cross-Country Running Championships!  The Conference is excited to once again welcome a partner such as the Running Room in this long-honoured ACAC award.
We appreciate the efforts our student-athletes put forward in combining athletic and academic achievement on their way to becoming leaders in Alberta’s sporting community and we are pleased to be able to recognize them further thanks to this support provided by our newest partner, the Running Room Ltd.
Hope to see you in Camrose for The 2012 Running Room ACAC Cross-Country Running Championships!
