St. Mary’s University College Welcomes David Petroziello as Director of Athletics
Calgary, AB (July 15, 2010) – St. Mary’s University College is excited to announce David Petroziello as Director of Athletics for the St. Mary’s Lightning effective July 15, 2010.
David brings to this position a unique background combining a strong interest in academics and the liberal arts with a life-long interest in athletics. He holds a BA Honours in Political Science from Bishops University and is completing an MA in political science from Simon Fraser University. He served as Head Coach and Program Coordinator at College Charles- Lemoyne and College de Sherbrooke in Quebec. David was an assistant basketball coach at Simon Fraser University and a guest national team coach and clinician for the Basketball Federation of India and the Punjab Basketball Association. In addition, he served as the Head Coach, General Manager and Director of Operations for the Vancouver Titans, a professional basketball team in the International Basketball League. This past year, he was General Manager of the Bunbury Basketball Association in Western Australia where he provided leadership for a 130 team, 1500 member association, as well as coached a second division professional team. David has also been very involved in running training camps and clinics for athletes of various ages and performance levels over the past fifteen years.
“I am thrilled to be joining Lightning Athletics at an exciting time in our development as a varsity program,” said David. “The familial environment here and the institution’s commitment to excellence in the classroom and on the playing field convinced my family and I it was time to return to Canada from overseas. I look forward to working with the St. Mary’s community, staff, coaches, and athletes to make Lightning Athletics the best it can possibly be.”
