St. Mary’s University College Welcomes Chris Shoults as New Director of Athletics
St. Mary’s is excited to welcome Chris Shoults as our new Director of Athletics as the Lightning move into the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) this Fall 2012.
Shoults’ extensive education and experience position him well to take over a program which has been consistently successful in the Alberta Colleges Athletic League (ACAL), and is now ready to transition into the ACAC . He holds a Bachelor of Physical Education (with distinction) and a Bachelor of Education (with distinction) from the University of Alberta and a Master of Sports Science (honours), with a focus in Sports Management, from the United States Sports Academy. Chris has taught in the elementary through to the university level in various countries around the world. He won a Teaching Award of Excellence and the Associate Award of Excellence for his work with students at Rice University while he was the coordinator of an academic program.
Shoults has coached numerous sports at competitive levels and is a Learning Facilitator for the National Coaching Certification Program of Canada. He set up and ran a high performance sports centre in Alberta tied to the Canada Sport Centre Calgary. Furthermore, Shoults wrote, organized and presented the educational programming at Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.
"I am excited about the opportunity to be leading the transition of St Mary’s Athletics into the highly competitive and established league of ACAC in the Fall 2012,” said Shoults. With the Fall semester beginning in September, 2012, Shoults is hard at work making the final stages of the move.
