Rachel Caputo
SAIT Polytechnic
Women's Basketball

The SAIT Trojans women’s basketball team won two out of three games this past weekend in Edmonton at the first annual CIS-ACAC Pre-Season Showcase, despite suffering two more injuries, and lost the third game of the weekend by just two points to the MacEwan University Griffins, the defending ACAC champions. Rachel, an Edmonton native, was the Trojans’ leading scorer in all three games. During the MacEwan contest, she had one of her classic dominating performances — scoring 21 points and hustling all over the floor with defence, steals, and rebounds. Her effort, leadership, and skills were incredible.

Rachel is a fifth year basketball player in the New Media Production and Design program at SAIT Polytechnic.

Congratulations Rachel on Athlete of the Week accomplishments!

Sydney Johnson-Parker
MacEwan University
Golf

Sydney Johnson-Park won the ACAC Women's Golf Championship title this past weekend held at Desert Blume Golf Course.  She shot an 86 on both days for a total 172 on a very windy championship weekend.

“We’re really proud of Sydney oh how she played this week. She’s worked hard on her game during the off season and come into this season with a lot of confidence. Her performance at the ACAC Championship was solid from start to finish and she deserved the win. Sydney will definitely have an important role as we prepare for the CCAA Nationals and we look forward to seeing our women’s team build on their Provincial Championship win.” – Jodi Campbell, head coach.

Congratulations Sydney on your golden performance!

Brett Hawken
MacEwan University
Golf

“Brett’s gold medal performance at the Conference Championship was really great. To come out and fire 68 on day one certainly separated him from the rest of the field. His round of 77 on day two was just as impressive given the fact the wind conditions wreaked havoc on all of the players. Having the lead and attempting to win the tournament was a big task and he handled the added pressure perfectly.” – Jodi Campbell, head coach.

Brett is a freshman student taking Management Studies at MacEwan University.

Congratulations Brett on an oustanding weekend!

John Murray
GPRC
Men's Soccer

Third year keeper, John Murray, put in a solid overall effort on Saturday helping the GPRC Wolves men shutout the 6th ranked Concordia Thunder 2-0. John made every save called upon to keep the mighty Thunder off the score sheet and garner the Wolves a much deserved, hard fought victory over their rivals from Edmonton The shutout ws the 3rd of the young season already for John, quite an accomplishment in itself competing in the ultra-competitive ACAC North Division.

John is in his third year working towards a Bachelor of Science degree.

Congratulations on being named Athlete of the Week.
