Sean Foote Appointed Men's Basketball Coach
St. Mary’s University College is pleased to announce that Sean Foote has been appointed coach of the Lightning Athletics men’s basketball team.
Sean comes to St. Mary’s with a lifetime of basketball experience at both the university and professional levels in a variety of countries.
"I am very proud to be coaching a team that has a track record of success in the ACAL over the past few seasons," Foote said. "The players and I are excited about our transition into a highly reputed and established league such as ACAC and our goal is to be competitive right away."
Sean began his playing career here in Calgary at Western Canada High School in 1987. From there, he moved on to an exceptional varsity career at the University of Alberta, playing for legendary coach Don Horwood from 1990-1993.
In 1994, Sean began his professional career in Germany, where he played until 2000. After his playing days, Sean became an assistant coach with the King’s University College Eagles in Edmonton from 2001-2004 before moving on to coach at Palmer Trinity High School in Miami, Florida from 2005-2008. Sean has since moved back to Calgary where he is the Director of Finance and Administration at the Canadian Sport Centre, one of the top Olympic sport training centers in the world.
We are excited to welcome Sean Foote as our new men’s basketball coach as the Lightning move into the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) in Fall 2012.
