Sambu Returns to Lead the Rustlers
08/26/2010 ... Lloydminster - Peter Sambu has returned to Lakeland College as Head Men’s Basketball Coach. Coach Sambu brings with him varied experience from High School to Pro Basketball. For the 2009-10 season, Sambu was the Head Coach for the Women’s Basketball team at the King’s University College in Edmonton, Alberta leading the team to a 25-15 overall record and an 18-6 Conference record.
Prior to coming back to the ACAC, Coach Sambu coached in the United States as an Assistant Coach for several Division I Junior College programs: Colby Community College (Colby, Kansas); Gary Steelhead (USBL-Gary, Indiana), North Dakota State College of Science (Wahpeton, North Dakota). Sambu also spent time as an assistant coach with the Edmonton energy of the IBL.
Sambu served as Associate Coach for Lakeland College in Lloydminster, Alberta in 2004-05. At Lakeland he worked under one of Canada's most successful basketball coaches, Phil Allen, who won 762 games in a coaching career spanning 34 years. Allen's win total stands as the highest in CCAA basketball history.
Sambu brings his experience and a creative, relational, fundamentally sound, intense, defense-first coaching philosophy; which will be a great fit for the Lakeland College team. Coach Sambu is looking to achieve a well-rounded Men’s program based on a student/athlete concept of education supporting athletics.
