Marmot Basin/Hostelling International Jasper Female Athlete of the Week
Anita Birkland
The King's University College
Women's Volleyball

Anita Birkland is a third year libero for the King's Eagles and one of the team's captains. This weekend, at the Grant MacEwan tournament, Anita averaged 3.7 digs per set and helped lead her team to a silver medal finish. Anita brings a great deal of experience and leadership to her team and will be a tremendous asset during the upcoming season.

Anita is a graduate of Archbishop Macdonald High School and working towards a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry.

Congratulations Anita on being named Athlete of the Week!

Marmot Basin/Hostelling International Jasper Male Athlete of the Week
Tim Finnigan
Red Deer College
Men's Volleyball

Tim Finnigan continued his strong pre-season play this weekend throughout the Ramada Inns and Suites Challenge Cup Tournament at RDC. The Kings ended up losing in the final to a very strong RDC Alumni Group led by National Team players Nicholas Cundy and Brock Davidiuk.

Tim's weekend totals in five matches and 15 sets played were; 67 kills, 6 blocks, 26 digs and 6 service aces.  These numbers alone are impressive but if you look at his kill % of 57% and his kill efficiency of 38%, Tim was quite dominant on the weekend.  He also put up great passing numbers over those 5 matches. Tim passed for a 2.29 average over the 5 matches which is a very solid number for any college passer.  However, Tim has recently made the change from a right side player to a left side player which includes a primary passing responsibility.  With the very limited amount of passing reps that he has had, to put up a number like that over a weekend is fantastic.

Congratulations Tim!
