NAIT Ooks 3 Medcine Hat Rattlers 1

10/27/2012... Edmonton, Alberta - Tied 1-1 at halftime against the Medicine Hat Rattlers in the first of two Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference women’s soccer championship’s semi-finals, NAIT Ooks coach Carol Holt had a talk with her team at halftime.

“Medicine Hat is a very good team and we had to make some adjustments to deal with the pressure they were giving us on the field,” said Holt of the Ooks, who are currently ranked No. 3 in the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association national poll. “There was a bit of a wind and we were going against it in the first half and they were pushing pushing the ball and we had to battle that and clearance out of our end against the wind.”

Rattlers opened scoring on a penalty kick by Brookelyn Buss while Ooks had goals by Leanne Kadatz, Delaney McNaughton and Kelly Tataryn

“That was mentally and physically a tough game having played yesterday. Despite the score it was a close game.”

Rattlers head caoch Jim Loughlin also felt that the environment had an effect on his team.

“In the second half the wind was dramatically stronger than in the first half when it was against our backs and now we had to play into it in the second half.”

Neither coach used the conditions as an excuse, Loughlin stating his team played its best to its abilities. "We enter every game with the idea to win. Our team has a great deal of pride.

“We came back at them but we weren’t able to create the chances to finish. I think if we played that game a couple of more times it would turn in our favour.”
