August 24, 2010: Say hello to “Clayton’s Angels”
Keyano College women’s basketball head coach Clayton Nielsen is pleased to announce the signing of three graduates from Edwin Parr Composite High School: Krystnn Nichol, Alison Shaw and Abbie Uchytil.
The three Athabasca, Alberta hoopsters played for the Angels under the guidance of veteran high school coach Wade Hicks
“Krystnn (Nichol) has always been one of the most consistent players on the floor,” said Hicks of Nichol, who started playing basketball in Grade 6 along with teammates Shaw and Uchytil. “She is capable of defending both guards and posts and is strong on the boards. She is a very good shooter from the outside and her inside game steadily improved throughout her high school career.”
Nichol plans on taking the Bachelor of Physical Education program and selected Keyano because of its size.
“I chose Keyano because it is not too overwhelming in size and an easy adjustment, having the programs I want to take and having the opportunity to play college basketball,” stated Nichol
Hicks continues in stating that Shaw will be a “positive addition” to the Keyano Huskies program as they enter their inaugural campaign in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference basketball.
“Allison (Shaw) was always one of the most consistent shooters when she played,” said Hicks. “She is a very solid rebounder and a good defender and always a great player to have on the floor. Alison was voted as the Most Valuable Player in her Grade 12 season.”
Shaw has also played club basketball and coached a junior high club team this past season.
Of the final Angels addition, Hicks said.  “Abbie (Uchytil) is a very fierce competitor and solid player. She is a great slasher to the basket and has a very good post game for a guard. Abbie has a great work ethic and is a very good floor leader.”
Uchytil is looking forward to wearing Huskies colours in 2010-2011.
“I choose Keyano over other schools because they offered the program I was interested in (Early Learning and Childcare Education) and I really wanted to be apart in the first ACAC season. The Sport &Wellness Centre (Huskies homecourt) was amazing and everyone was very friendly, made me feel right at home.”
