ACAC Welcomes New Athlete of the Week Sponsors
9/13/2012... Edmonton, AB - The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to introduce Marmot Basin and Hostelling International Jasper as its newest partners. Each week, recipients, including those noted above, will receive from Marmot Basin a Student Lift ticket for a day’s skiing plus a discount coupon for up to six accompanying friends/family members and from Hostelling International Jasper two dormitory bed nights. We are very pleased to welcome Marmot Basin and HI-Jasper to the ACAC family and are grateful to the contributions they are making to our student-athletes and to the development of sport in Alberta.
Marmot Basin, located in beautiful Jasper National Park, was the ONLY Canadian Rockies ski resort in North America’s Top 20 (Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice, 2011). The resort offers seven lifts including the Canadian Rockies Express which is the longest high speed quad chairlift in the Canadian Rockies, 3 High Speed Quad Chairlifts, 1 Quad Chairlift, 1 Triple Chairlift, 1 Double Chairlift and 1 Magic Carpet which transport skiers across 1,675 acres with 86 marked runs! Marmot Basin (http://www.skimarmot.com) offers a diverse variety of skier levels including 30% novice, 30% intermediate, 20% advanced and 20% expert runs. At Marmot Basin, boasting the highest base elevation in Canada means more snow and boasting three new lifts in three years means more time to spend on the slopes and less time standing in lift lines! We’re excited this partnership will encourage more of our student-athletes to enjoy this truly awe-inspiring experience!
While the town of Jasper offers a wide selection of accommodation possibilities, rarely can one match the experience offered by Hostelling International Jasper. Perched on the side of Whistlers Mountain, HI-Jasper is the place in Jasper to connect with nature and other like-minded budget and adventure-seeking travellers. The mountain peak out the front door begs to be climbed and with the trailhead only steps away, how can you resist? Before one heads up to the hostel, one should be sure to pick up some groceries and refreshments in town then kick back and enjoy the social atmosphere as one cooks one’s dinner alongside fellow hostellers. As the day winds down, plan the runs or trails for the next day, share the adventures to be had outdoors or head into town for a night out with the locals. As noted on their website (http://wwwhihostels.ca/westerncanada/1478/HI-Jasper.hostel), HI-Jasper’s “larger than normal dorm-style accommodation may require a sense of humour” . . . and, what a neat experience!
The Conference is excited to once again welcome Athlete of the Week partners in this long-honoured ACAC award. We appreciate the efforts our student-athletes put forward in combining athletic and academic achievement on their way to becoming leaders in Alberta’s sporting community and we are pleased to be able to recognize them further thanks to these awards provided by our newest partners, Marmot Basin and Hostelling International Jasper. Come back each week to view our current Athletes of the Week. See you on the slopes at Marmot Basin and relaxing après ski at HI-Jasper!
