ACAC Welcomes Alberta Soccer Association Scholarships

10/19/2012... Edmonton, AB - The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce it has reached a sponsorship agreement with a long time athletic colleague of the Conference, the Alberta Soccer Association (ASA). We are very pleased to officially welcome the ASA into the ACAC family of partners and are grateful for the contributions they have made in the past in providing officials to the Conference and which they are continuing to make to our student-athletes directly through this partnership and to the development of the sport of soccer in Alberta.

The partnership will involve the provision of four $250 scholarships:  two ACAC Soccer Rookie of the Year Scholarships for the Alberta-trained female and male athletes chosen by the ACAC Soccer Sport Management Team (SMT - a group of four coaches) and two ACAC Soccer Player of the Year Scholarships for those female and male athletes chosen by the SMT as the outstanding performers during the 2012 season.

ASA Executive Director Richard Adams offered the following comment:

The Alberta Soccer Association is proud to support the ACAC Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year Scholarship programs.  As higher education institutions supporting the game we love, we are happy to support the ACAC as a group providing higher education in partnership with elite athletics.  Congratulations to all of this year’s award winners on behalf of the Alberta Soccer Association.

The award recipients will be honoured at the ACAC championships occurring next week.  The women gather at Edmonton’s MacEwan University October 26-28 for the 2012 ACAC Women’s Soccer Championship presented by Elite Sportswear and Awards while Red Deer College will host the men for the 2012 ACAC Men’s Soccer Championships presented by Elite Sportswear and Awards.  The Conference is excited to once again welcome a partner such as the Alberta Soccer Association in sponsoring these long-honoured ACAC awards.

We appreciate the efforts our student-athletes put forward in combining athletic and academic achievement on their way to becoming leaders in Alberta’s sporting community and we are pleased to be able to recognize them further thanks to this support provided by our newest partner, the Alberta Soccer Association.

The ASA joins fellow provincial sports associations and collegial partners Basketball Alberta, Volleyball Alberta and the Alberta Volleyball Officials Association in making these scholarship contributions to the future leaders of their sports in the province of Alberta.  On behalf of the 2,200 ACAC student-athletes, thank you!
