ACAC Golfers Off Course at CCAA Championship
10/21/2011...Roseneath, P.E.I -The weather and scores were not kind to the Grant MacEwan Griffins, Lethbridge Kodiaks and Mount Royal University Cougars at the 2011 PING CCAA Golf National Championships which concluded today at the Brundenell River Golf Course in Roseneath, P.E.I.
All three teams were unable to medal in individual or team competition.
In men’s individual play Adam Bruce, Grant MacEwan University, 78 74 for 152; Kevin Piper, Grant MacEwan University, 79 76 for 155 and Jeremy Vold, Mount Royal University, 76 80 for 156 placed ninth, 13th and 20th in the 59 member field which was shortened to only two rounds after cancellation Thursday due to heavy rains.
ACAC women golfers finishing in the Top 20 were: 12th, Megan Vermillion, Grant MacEwan University 87 94 for 181; 13th Lauren Schmidek, Mount Royal University 86 95 for 181, 14th Tannis Tail Feathers, Lethbridge College 95 87 for 182, 17th Sydney Johnson-Parker, Grant MacEwan University 95 89 for 184 and 19th Rachel Whyte, Grant MacEwan University 94 91for 185.
Grant MacEwan University Griffins women finished 5th in team competition which featured 18 colleges.
“The course was wet wet wet,” said Cougars Brock Balog. “There was also probably a 50 mile per hour wind out there. After a while it is hard for the golfers to slug around and it can wear on you a bit.”
Balog said the missed day of competition may have affected the overall showing by ACAC golfers but was quick to add, “We were all in the same situation.”
Balog was also high in praise of the host course and host college Holland College of Charlottetown, P.E.I.
