ACAC Golf Championships

09/30/2009 ... Calgary ... The cold and wind couldn’t stop the provinces top collegiate golfers from making the most of their opportunities at the 2009-10 ACAC Golf Championship.  49 student-athletes in total participated in the two day event, held at the Wintergreen Golf and Country Club in Bragg Creek, Alberta.

Led by first year Mount Royal University Cougar, Phil Kondrak, who also claimed the men’s individual gold medal, the Cougar men’s team was cool, calm and collected over the two day tournament, winning the competition by a resounding 30 strokes. Team members included Kobly Kniel, Dacry MacDonald, Rob Sakamoto and Brandy Goemans.

The MacEwan University Griffins finished in second, with Red Deer College winning the bronze. 

On the women’s side of the draw, the MacEwan Griffins were dominant in their winning performance, claiming the team gold medal by 14 strokes.  Team members included Daryl Lynn Nepoose, Jeanine Sears, Lisamarie Morin and Lauren Lemieuz. 

Caitlin Kelliher, from Red Deer College, was the low individual women of the tournament, shooting a two day total of 180, beating Nepoose, by 3 strokes.

Results

All the teams played exceptionally well and it made for an exciting tournament, as the teams now prepare to head to the CCAA Nationals October 13-16 in Windsor, Ontario.
