The curling was excellent as the top four teams in each division played a round robin to determine the seeding for a Page Playoff in the ACAC Curling Championship.

In the men’s division the NAIT rink entered the weekend as the top ranked team and lived up to their billing as they finished first in the round robin.  However they experienced a stumble in the 1st vs. 2nd Page Playoff as the Lethbridge College Kodiaks defeated the Ooks 8- 4.   The NAIT rink recovered in the Page Semi Final by defeating the Augustana Vikings which set up a gold medal rematch with Lethbridge.  The NAIT Ooks took the final game and the gold medal with an 8-5 victory.  The Lethbridge College Kodiaks took silver and the Augustana Vikings received the bronze.

The women’s division was anticipated to be highly competitive and did not disappoint.  The ladies had the closest scores of the tournament and featured great shot making and tremendous strategy.  The Lakeland Rustlers defeated the GPRC Wolves in the 1st  vs. 2nd  Page Playoff Saturday night.  GPRC recovered Sunday morning to defeat the NAIT Ooks in the semi-final to set up a rematch with the Rustlers.  The final featured skips Lindsay Makichuk of Lakeland and Cary-Anne Sallows of GPRC in a great match-up.  The game did not disappoint the Lakeland fans as the Rustlers won gold with GPRC taking silver.

The mixed division featured the undefeated Red Deer rink that continued a great run through the round robin and taking the top seed into the Page Playoff 1st vs. 2nd.   Once again home ice helped the 2nd ranked Lakeland Rustlers sneak out an 8-4 win and a place in the final.  In the semi final the GPRC Wolves faced the Red Deer Kings & Queens and held on to an early lead to score the upset and place in the final versus Lakeland.  Lakeland and GPRC exchanged leads during an exciting final before the  Lakeland Rustlers prevailed in the 8th and final end to win gold with a 6-5 victory, GPRC Wolves took silver and Red Deer won the bronze.

Thank you to all the teams and coaches for an excellent season of curling!
