2012-13 ACAC Men's North & South Soccer Coaches of the Year

10/30/2012...Edmonton, Alberta - The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the 2012-13 ACAC Men's North & South Soccer Coaches of the Year as selected by their peers.

SOUTH

Steve Fullarton - Red Deer College

Steve Fullarton brings 28 years of playing and coaching experience to the Red Deer College Kings Soccer program. Steve spent his entire soccer playing career in his native Scotland and took the step into coaching after moving to Canada in 1994. Steve has had the opportunity to play under and work alongside elite coaches through the years and now finds himself passing the valuable knowledge gained on to the RDC Kings players.  Steve has just completed his fifth season in charge of the RDC Kings, going from missing the playoffs in 2011 to a 6-1-3 record and 4th place finish at the  Conference Championships in 2012.

Steve has built the soccer program at RDC by placing great emphasis on hard work and discipline as well as a professional approach from the student-athletes both on and off the field.  Steve gives a lot of credit for this award to the RDC Athletics Department staff for their fantastic support as well as his coaching staff and the RDC Kings players and hopes that continued commitment and dedication will see the soccer program at RDC continue to flourish.

Congratulations Steve on being recognized by your peers for your work with the Red Deer Kings.

NORTH

Chris Spaidal - Grande Prairie Regional College

Coach Spaidal has been coaching the Wolves men’s Soccer Team for 5 years. During this time he has taken the program from trying to field a team to one that has 30 players trying out. The team has earned the respect of the conference due to their high level of play on the field. A credit to Chris’ coaching ability.

This year Chris guided the team to its best season ever. Their record of 5 wins, 2 ties, and 3 losses for 17 points is the highest ever. Their goals scored and their goals against are team records while they placed 3 players on the ACAC All Conference Team. This is the first time ever the team has participated in the ACAC Conference Championship.

There is no doubt about Chris’ dedication to the game of soccer. He holds a United States (USSF) National B License and a Canadian national B License. He is the Head Coach of the Wolves Soccer Club program, has coached 10 Arctic Winter Games teams, and coached the ASA Provincial U16 Boys team for 2 years. He also coaches the GPRC Wolves Women’s Soccer Team.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities Chris is the Executive Director of eth Grande Prairie Soccer Association and the Regional Staff Coach (North) for the Alberta Soccer Association.

Coach Chris Spaidal is a very determined, passionate, dedicated and committed coach. His concern for his players’ development and growth is evidenced by the continual improvement and success the team is experiencing.

This is Chris’ second ACAC Men’s Coach of the Year Award.
