2012-13 ACAC Golf Coaches of the Year

10/02/2012...Edmonton...The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference is pleased to announce Jodi Campbell and Alan Riley of Grant MacEwan University as repeat winners of the ACAC Golf Coach of the Year Award.

Creating a team with depth and balance was one goal coaches Jodi Campbell and Alan Riley had set for the long term development for the MacEwan University Griffins golf program. This season, the duo reaped the benefits of their hard work and were once again recognized by their peers as the ACAC Coaches of the Year.

"Alan and I couldn't be more thrilled to receive this year’s ACAC Golf Coach of the Year honour,” reflected Campbell of the second consecutive nod. “Anytime you are recognized by your peers for the work you are doing it's very humbling. We've worked very hard to create a team environment that allows our golfers to perform at their best and this year both our men's and women's teams have done just that. There are so many great golf coaches across the ACAC that work very hard to grow the game and develop their players from one year to the next and they are also very deserving of this award. To be selected is simply an honour and we are very appreciative."

“We are elated for our golf program and what they have accomplished again this season to this point. For our women to earn a second consecutive ACAC Championship title, and our men to finish as silver medalists, it truly is a testament to the hard work and dedication Jodi and Alan devote to the program,” commented Ken Schildroth, Director of Athletics. “The leadership they have provided to our team on and off the course is instrumental to their success.”

Campbell, a University Advisor in the Golf Management and Management Studies program, and Riley a Golf Management and Management Studies Curriculum Coordinator, guided their squads to the women’s team championship and a women’s individual title, as well as a men’s individual title and team silver medal performance. The team was nearly unblemished during the regular season winning the North Regional qualifier in both men’s and women’s categories, followed up by winning the South Regional qualifier finishing atop the podium in the men’s and women’s team and individual events.

The coaching staff will be Alberta’s nomination for the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association National Golf Coach of the Year.
