Red Deer, November 1, 2017 – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference is pleased to announce that Sophia Nowicki of the Lethbridge College Kodiaks Women's cross country team, has been selected as the 2017-18 ACAC cross country female Rookie of the Year.
The first year Kodiaks student athlete from Calgary, Alberta is enrolled in the General Studies program. She graduated from St Timothy HS in Cochrane in June of 2017. Sophia was highly recruited by several post-secondary institutions after placing second at the 2016 HS cross country provincials. Her goals are to be a nurse one day and she loves to run and does it as a hobby and a life skill as part of her goals in life.
Coach Bertil Johansson says about Sophia's impact on the program, "As her head coach I am pleased to say that she has inspired many of her team mates on and off the trails, as she is fully devoted to her academic endeavours and her athletic pursuits.
"What an incredible first season for Sophia. She stepped in and has made an immediate and impressive impact not only on her team but in the ACAC cross country scene. I am very happy for her and excited to see what level she can continue to take her ability too," says Todd Caughlin. Manager of Kodiaks Athletics.
